Project / Program Tasks

Relevance. The Program idea is aimed at solving the tasks set by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture in order to ensure high-quality management of pasture lands in the framework of curbing the processes of degradation and desertification, mitigating the effects of global warming and ensuring food security and competitiveness of Kazakhstan. When implementing the Program, scientists will create agrophytocenoses of perennial and annual forage crops with high productivity potential; arid crops were studied to improve pastures in the semi-desert and desert zones of the country; effective technologies for grazing farm animals were studied with an assessment of feed and energy value of pasture feed and feed capacity; grass mixtures of perennial grasses were selected for fenced pastures; using groundwater, the problems of watering pastures will be solved; using GIS, a database of solonetz lands on pastures was created. As a result of the Program, effective livestock placement, permissible grazing load standards for agricultural animals on pastures, and standard plans for the management and use of pastures will be proposed for each region. The Program innovativeness lies in solving the problems of the country's pasture management by organizing comprehensive scientific research using modern, as well as world-tested techniques to develop effective technologies for increasing the productive potential and rational use of pastures with the involvement of scientific and educational institutions from different natural and climatic zones of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Achieved Results and Novelty

For 1 year of project implementation.

Based on the research conducted in 2024, the results were obtained to achieve the set goal of developing effective technologies to increase productive potential and rational use of pastures.

The main design and technical and economic indicators: In various natural and climatic zones of Kazakhstan, effective technologies are expected to be developed, including the creation of highly productive agrophytocenoses for the production of nutritious feed with a yield of at least 10-25 c/ha, the construction of grass mixtures for fenced pastures, the selection of optimal arid plants allowing to increase the productivity of pastures up to 1.5 times in semi-desert and desert zones of Kazakhstan; Development of effective grazing technologies using seasonal and intra-seasonal pasture plots, allowing to increase the yield of pastures by 8-10% and increase the productivity of grazed livestock by 10-15%, development of techniques for effective watering of pastures through the use of groundwater resources; Creation of a database of salt lands on pastures based on comprehensive soil and vegetation studies using GIS technologies; Proposed for farmers, effective placement of livestock of agricultural animals on pastures, permissible load standards of agricultural animals on pastures, typical pasture management and use plans.

Expected Results

Created agrophytocenoses by sowing high-yielding perennial and annual forage crops with a yield of at least 10-25 c/ha of pasture forage on an area of at least 10 hectares, depending on natural and climatic zones of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the production of nutritious feed in forage lands;

Carried out agrotechnical measures for arid forage crops to increase the productivity of pastures up to 1.5 times in the semi-desert and desert zones of Kazakhstan;

Developed effective technologies for grazing farm animals (seasonal and intra-seasonal pasture plots) for the rational use of pasture lands (by studying indicators of vegetation and soil cover, assessing the feed and energy value of pasture feed, determining feed capacity), which allows increasing pasture yields by 8-10% and increasing productivity grazing livestock by 10-15%;

Developed recommendation for the effective placement of animals based on vegetation cover indicators, taking into account their species and productivity in various natural and climatic zones of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

Carried out hydrogeological survey of pasture lands to determine the actual state of water resources. A hydrogeological map will also be developed on the availability and use of groundwater for watering pasture areas on a scale of 1: 200,000;

Developed recommendation on permissible grazing load standards for farm animals on the dominant types of pastures in the context of regions of Kazakhstan.

Developed standard plan for the management and use of pastures by region.

A database of solonetz lands on pastures will be created using GIS technologies, the conditions of pasture lands will be studied taking into account morphological and physico-chemical properties of soil and vegetation cover. Based on the data obtained, a digital map of solonetz lands and recommendations for their use will be developed by geographic or climatic zones of Kazakhstan;

Effective technologies will be developed for cultivating grass mixtures of perennial grasses for fenced pastures in the natural and climatic zones of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A recommendation will be developed and published on effective technologies for increasing the productive potential and rational use of pastures.

Young specialists are involved, incl. 2 post-graduate students and 3 graduate students.
