The foundation of the institute was laid in 2003, when the opening of the oil and gas faculty was held by the decision of the academic the university council. As part of the institute, there are 11 graduating educational programs: “Civil Engineering”, “Production of Construction Materials”, “Oil and Gas Engineering”, “Chemical Engineering and Processes”, “Geology and Mineral Exploration”, “Maintenance of Mining Equipment”, “Development and Operation of Mineral Deposits” , “Operation and maintenance of production facilities”, “Land management”, “Cadastre”, “Hydraulic reclamation”.
The development of the Karachaganak gas and oil condensate field, the presence of machine-building plants, huge reserves of ore and non-metallic raw materials, the development of mass civil and industrial construction require appropriate personnel and scientific support. Therefore, by the Decree of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 25.06.2005, No. 633, a mechanical engineering faculty was established at the university. In 2007, the new building of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was put into operation.
In 2008, the first undergraduate graduates of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering completed their studies. In June 2019, as a result of optimization of the university, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was renamed to the Industrial and Technological Institute.In the period from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2024, the institute was headed by Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Engineering, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Sarsenbek Aliakbarovich Montaev. Currently, the director of the institute is acting associate Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences Gubaidullina Gulkhan Muratbekovna.
Currently, the institute has licenses for the training of specialists in higher and postgraduate education in 17 educational programs, of which 11 are for undergraduate, 5 for masters and 1 for doctoral studies. The training of specialists in all educational programs of higher and postgraduate education is conducted in three languages. All educational programs are reviewed by employers, professional associations and graduates.
