An international seminar titled “Antimicrobial Resistance: Global Challenges and Solutions” was held at Zhangir Khan University with the support of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
The seminar brought together scientists and experts from Kazakhstan, Russia, Lithuania, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and the United Kingdom, as well as representatives of the veterinary control and supervision system, the healthcare sector, and international organizations, including the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
During the seminar, participants discussed the spread of antimicrobial resistance, the rational use of antibiotics, ensuring biological safety, interagency cooperation, and international collaboration.
It should be noted that antimicrobial resistance is currently one of the most serious global threats to human and animal health.
“Today, our university hosted an international seminar dedicated to the issue of antimicrobial resistance. The relevance of this topic is associated with the gradual decline in the effectiveness of antibiotics. As a result, the treatment of infectious diseases in humans and animals is becoming increasingly difficult. This leads to prolonged illness, additional economic costs, and reduced productivity of farm animals. We would like to express our special gratitude to the American Society for Microbiology for supporting this event. Thanks to this support, we were able to bring together specialists from different countries on one platform and discuss one of the most important issues of our time. Such meetings are important not only for exchanging experience but also for developing concrete solutions,” said Laura Dushayeva, Head of the Veterinary and Biological Safety Laboratory at Zhangir Khan West Kazakhstan Agrarian and Technical University.
The international seminar was organized at the initiative of the Veterinary Control and Supervision Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of the Veterinary Sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
