SDG 12. Responsible consumption and production consists of 6 national indicators (https://stat.gov.kz/ru/sustainable-development-goals/goal/12/). In 2023, indicators related to the processing and disposal of industrial waste deteriorated sharply. So, in 2022, the share of processing and disposal of industrial waste to their formation was 40.03%, in 2023 it decreased to 30.38%. In 2023, emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere decreased to 2,257.5 thousand tons compared to 2022 – 2,314.8 thousand tons. In April 2024, a Roadmap was approved to raise awareness of ESG and sustainable finance issues, and Guidelines for Environmental and Social Risk Management were approved.
The University pursues a policy of responsible consumption and production.:
• We support suppliers who respect human rights, ensure fair working conditions, and contribute to the development of local communities. Priority is given to companies that are actively involved in social initiatives and have a positive reputation. We strive to optimize costs, but not at the expense of quality and sustainability. When choosing suppliers, not only the price is taken into account, but also the long-term benefits associated with sustainable practices.
• We will actively work to reduce the consumption of resources such as water and electricity, as well as to implement recycling and reuse practices.
• We plan to introduce energy-efficient technologies, optimize the use of resources, and develop sustainable transport concepts, such as programs aimed at encouraging the use of public transport, bicycles, and carpooling (ridesharing).
• We also intend to improve resource management by creating waste collection and recycling systems, as well as promoting initiatives to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic on the university grounds.
