Acting associate professor of the institute of veterinary and agrotechnology, PhD, Dr. Zamzagul Amangeldikyzy, in accordance with the schedule, conducts practice-oriented classes (POS) in the discipline “Landscape design” for 3rd–year students of the educational program 6B08301 – Landscape Design in the 2nd semester on the basis of the garden center IP “Green City M. Gulnara”.
Within the framework of the “Landscape Design” course, it is essential to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience. To achieve this, the classes were held at a garden center, allowing students to work directly with real landscape elements in a natural environment. During the practice, students became familiar with various types of plants, studied their biological characteristics, and explored their role in landscape design.
The classes were conducted in the following areas:
- Identification and description of decorative plant species;
- Learning zoning methods for landscape areas;
- Creating aesthetic compositions;
- Proper placement of plants considering soil type and lighting;
- Receiving practical advice from garden center professionals.
The practical tasks were carried out both individually and in groups. Each student developed a mini-project for a designated area, selected plants based on compositional compatibility, and explained their functions (sun protection, shading, aesthetics, fragrance, etc.).
Outcomes:
- Students applied theoretical knowledge in real-life conditions;
- Improved their design and drawing skills;
- Enhanced their ability to identify plant species;
- Gained experience working with natural materials;
- Developed an aesthetic sense and creativity.
