SDG 7. Affordable and clean energy consists of 6 national indicators (https://stat.gov.kz/ru/sustainable-development-goals/goal/7/). Almost all indicators of SDG 7 show annual positive dynamics. In 2023, the level of gasification of the population (current indicator 7.1.2) was 60%, which is 10.3 percentage points higher than in 2018 (49.7%). Over the period 2018-2023, the share of electricity produced by renewable energy sources (in total electricity production), including large hydroelectric power plants, increased from 10.2% to 12.7%, and excluding large hydroelectric power plants – 1.3% to 5%. A project on “green” hydrogen is being considered, and the construction of a nuclear power plant is being discussed.
The University adheres to the policy of using low-cost and clean energy sources through research and gradual implementation of energy efficiency standards for all renovated or new buildings on campus.
