The history of GOEP “Fishery” begins in 2001, when the first enrollment for a new specialty: “Ichthyology, industrial fishing and fishery” with a term of study of 5 years was carried out. With the transition of the system of higher education to three-level training: bachelor’s – master’s – doctoral studies simultaneously with specialists in ichthyology in the university is training bachelors of agriculture in the educational program: 5B08400 – “Fishery”, with a term of study of 4 years.
Training of students was carried out by the department “Technology of animal products production”. The heads of the department were candidate of agricultural sciences, associate professor Nasambaev E.G. (2000 – 2003), candidate of agricultural sciences, associate professor Gubashev N.M. (2003 – 2004).
In 2004 the chair was renamed to the chair “Biotechnology and animal husbandry”, and in 2006 the chair “Aquaculture and aquatic bioresources” was organized separately. the head of the chairs was candidate of agricultural sciences, associate professor N.M.Gubasheva.
In 2007 by merging of two chairs the chair “Biotechnology, animal husbandry and fishery” was formed. The head of the department is appointed Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, associate professor Nasambaev E.G., deputy head of the department – Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, acting assistant professor Shukurov M.Zh. In different years this department was headed by Esengaliev K.G. (2008-2010 and 2018 – 2019); A.B. Akhmetalieva (2013 – 2018).
The department has trained highly qualified specialists in animal husbandry, biotechnology, fishery, who have achieved great scientific achievements, which proves the high educational and methodical level of lectures and laboratory-practical classes conducted by teachers of the department. Among them, Professor Bozymov K.K., Academician Ukbaev H.I., Professors: Nasambaev E.G., Traisov B.B., Darbaev A.D., Gubashev N.M., Associate Professors: Zinullin A.Z., Kogabaev B.D., Tulebaev B.T., Yesengaliev K.G., Usiev E.T., Mashanov J.H., acting associate professors: Sadykov R.S., Shukurov M.Zh., Akhmetalieva A.B., Zhumagazhazieva S.M., senior lecturers: Tumenov A.N., Sariev B.T., Minzhasarova J.G., Davletova A.M., Kozhakhmetova A.N. and others.
In 2019 the department of “Biotechnology, animal husbandry and fishery” was transformed into a higher school “Technology of animal production”. The heads of the higher school were Dr. S.-Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor Esengaliev K.G. (2019 – 2020), Candidate of S.-Agricultural Sciences, Acting Associate Professor Shukurov M.Zh., (2020 – 2021), PhD, Acting Associate Professor Smagulov D.B. (2021). In the same year bachelor’s and master’s degree specialties: “Fishery and industrial fishing”, “Aquaculture and aquatic bioresources” were transferred to the newly organized higher school: “Ecology and bioresources”. From January to September 2020 the higher school was headed by candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Murzashev T.K. From September 2020 the head of the higher school is appointed candidate of biological sciences, acting associate professor Shukurov M.Zh. “Ecology and bioresources” higher school carried out 2 – x level training of bachelors and masters in specialties: “Ecology”, ‘Industrial ecology’, ‘Fishery and industrial fishing’, ‘Aquaculture and aquatic bioresources’.
From 2021 the preparation of educational programs: 6B08200/7M08200 – “Technology of animal products production”, 6B05200/7M05200/210/- “Industrial ecology”, 6B08400/7M08400/410- “Aquaculture and aquatic bioresources”, doctors (PhD) on OP 8D08200 – “Technology of animal products production” was carried out by the higher school “Animal husbandry and bioresources”, which was organized by combining the higher schools: “Technology of animal products production” and “Ecology and bioresources”. The head of the higher school is appointed Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Acting Associate Professor M.Zh. Shukurov.

The collective of VSH realized scientific projects of PCF MFA and GF MES RK, the results of which published scientific articles, monographs, patents for invention and introduced into production. Intra-breed types of Kazakh white-headed cattle breed, Akzhaik meat-wool breed of sheep, unique collection of sturgeon fish in artificial conditions and model apiary for bee cultivation were created. Educational-methodical and teaching aids have been developed, which have been tested and widely used in the educational process. Every year students of the above-mentioned specialties participate in the Republican subject Olympiad and scientific competition of student works.
From September 2024 the educational programs: 6B08400/7M08400/410- “Aquaculture and aquatic bioresources” are included in the institute “Veterinary and Agrotechnology”.
Scientific and pedagogical potential of the specialty allows to prepare a thinking, creative, educated, mature specialist, capable of making reasonable decisions independently, competitive, highly demanded by employers of domestic and foreign companies. Graduates of this specialty work in different branches of the agro-industrial complex of the country and abroad, investing their labor in the development of the industry.
