The purpose of the project / program: Development of new methods and improvement of existing techniques for managing equine genetic resources and effective technologies for the production of horse breeding products

Project / Program Tasks

– Development and improvement of the system for obtaining reliable pedigree records in productive horse breeding, as well as information modules for collection, storage, processing and automatic calculation of pedigree value of productive horses;

– Development of a panel of genetic markers for productive horses, allowing earlier prediction of the level of their milk productivity;

– Development of breeding and technological programs for consolidation of pedigree qualities of productive horse breeds with approbation of new breeding achievements;

– Determination of desirable exterior parameters of horses used for mare milk production;

– Development of effective methods of horse reproduction in the production of mare’s milk and technology of its processing.

Achieved Results and Novelty
Expected Results

1. A methodological guide on the principles of collection of primary breeding documentation taking into account the main breeding traits of horses of productive direction will be developed;

2. Information modules for collection, storage and processing of breeding records and calculation of breeding value of productive horses will be developed and improved;

3. A genetic bank (DNA from at least 500 dairy mares) will be created. Genotyping will be carried out using at least 80K SNPs with subsequent analysis of genetic diversity of populations;

4. Statistical analysis will be carried out to determine the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms and the level of milk productivity of mares;
