Name of the specialized scientific direction for which the application is submitted, type of research: Conservation and rational use of fauna and flora.

Estimated start and completion date of the project, its duration in months. 01.09.2023 – 31.12.2025 duration 28 months

Relevance. Development of a program to ensure the conservation and development of the resource base of promising for medicine and veterinary medicine plants of Kazakhstan under conditions of changing climate is an innovative multidisciplinary area of research, which complements and expands knowledge in the field of climatology, ecology, botany, plant physiology and pharmacology. Obtaining domestic pharmaceutical phytopreparations in sufficient quantities depends on the availability and magnitude of the resource base of official and medicinal plants. Natural ranges of plants are the result of a complex of factors – environmental conditions and ecophysiological potential of the species. Climatic changes lead to significant changes in the content of valuable biologically active substances in plants, which depend on growing conditions, phenological phase of plant development, time of collection, harvested organs. An actual and important direction of research is both maintenance of biodiversity of endemic and rare plant species in natural habitats and development of promising methods of preservation of valuable plant material in artificial conditions. Assessment of the biological effect of phytocomplexes and significant biologically active substances of potentially medicinal plants will provide valuable practical recommendations for their use in the development of new pharmaceuticals with a wide range of effects for medicine and veterinary medicine, and a comprehensive analysis of botanical and climatological data will provide a forecast on the prospects for the conservation of bioresources for the further use of target species in the domestic pharmaceutical market with the subsequent development of a series of highly effective medicines.

Project / Program Tasks

Project Goal - Development of a program to ensure the conservation and development of the resource base of promising for medicine and veterinary medicine plants of Kazakhstan in the conditions of changing climate.

Study of antimicrobial and antiparasitic activity of complex plant preparation on the basis of wormwood and other plants in veterinary medicine and its properties in the conditions of Western Kazakhstan.

Achieved Results and Novelty

For the 1st year of the project.

The antimicrobial properties of infusions of wormwood (Artemisia absinthum, Artemisia lerchiana), St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum), succession (Bidens tripartita), celandine (Chelidonium majus), calendula (Calendula officinalis) and chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) in vitro by the method of growth retardation of test microbial culture of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus and Escherichia coli on MPB and MPA. The mentioned plants have antiseptic, anticonvulsant, antimicrobial, antiparasitic, disinfectant, styptic, sedative, wound healing analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, sedative and local anesthetic effect. The aim of the research is to determine the antimicrobial activity of plants for the development of herbal complex preparation. Tested herbal remedies from local raw materials Artemisia absinthum, A. lerchiana, Hypericum perforatum, Bidens tripartita, Chelidonium majus, Calendula officinalis, Chamomilla recutita were used in the form of infusions, which were made by conventional methods of pharmacology. To study the antimicrobial properties of the infusions of the above plants in vitro we used the method of microbial culture growth retardation on MPB and disco-diffusion method on MPA. As a result of studies of antimicrobial activity of plant infusions on MPB and MPA, it was determined that two species of wormwood (Artemisia absinthum, Artemisia lerchiana) showed high antimicrobial activity against test microbes Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus and Escherichia coli. St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum), succession (Bidens tripartita) and celandine (Chelidonium majus) showed medium antimicrobial activity. These plants were selected for the development of a complex herbal preparation. The antimicrobial activity of calendula (Calendula officinalis) and chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) was low and we do not use them further.

Expected Results

Data will be obtained on the antimicrobial and antihelminthic activity of the complex herbal preparation in veterinary medicine.

The results of clinical, biochemical, hematological studies of the complex herbal preparation on farm animals will be obtained.

The results of analysis of some toxicological properties of the complex plant preparation on farm animals will be obtained.
