Students of the 1st year of the educational program “Geology of mineral deposits and their exploration” in order to consolidate the theoretical knowledge gained in the course of the discipline “General and historical Geology” conducted an exploration excursion to an open quarry for processing Boron (“Chalk Mountains”). In the introductory work under the guidance of teachers of the Higher School of Oil, Gas and Chemical Engineering Rosa Dzhusupkalieva and Altynai Kupeshova, students got acquainted with the system of open-pit mining, the sequence of selection and extraction of chalk and the equipment used by the plant (excavators, aggregates, etc.). In addition, students found the remains of marine animals extinct from the Cretaceous period, the remains of belemnites and moluscans of that period and the remains of sea urchins that lived in the warm seas of the ancient Caspian Sea, and learned to work with a geological hammer. Future geologists, together with their teachers, watched with great interest how the remains of organic substances are stored, searching for and distinguishing the historical remains of Cretaceous rocks.
